Igorot Dialects!

The Cordilleras is a mixture of native tongue. May we learn from each other by sharing some peculiar words we have from our own locality, or we have learned.

Dap-ay - (Kankana-ey/Applai) A designated place of gathering in a certain sitio ("purok"). It is a civic center where important occassions (eg. Begnas) hosted by such sitio are being held or celebrated. It serves as a place of mediation for elders to settle disputes or other social concerns among the inhabitants before being elevated, as the case maybe, to the Barangay.

It also used to be a place of courtship among singles, and a dormitory for young men where he comes to experience all sorts of ritual on the road to manhood.

Begnas - (Kankana-ey/Applai-Lubon, Tadian) A form of canao for a bountiful harvest. It is usually held during the time when ricefields are in shoot.
